The latest Installer newsletter talks to Paris Marx about his guide to alternative software not hosted in the US – something that’s important to consider now.

In particular he refers to the Proton privacy suite (I’ve been on Proton Mail but went for the full suite for access to ProtonVPN, which integrates nicely with the Vivaldi browser – another one of Marx’s recommendations)

Another recommendation is Signal which I also use but only for a select group of friends so far – I’d love to switch my family to it from WhatsApp.

this site is to provide resources and links to people and things who think the Net took a wrong turn right into the hands of the techbros and instead want the Net to return to the people.

To rescue it from drowning in AI slop and calcifying homogeneity and bring the net back to diversity and imagination and excitement – to create links between people and ideas and not traffic for business to business protocols.

To return to a World Wide Web that meets the promise that Timothy Berners-Lee offered us right at the very beginning.

It has taken all of us to build the web we have, and now it is up to all of us to build the web we want – for everyone
